From the classroom to helping families find legal support
Skip spent 31 years in the same school district as a Physical Education teacher and coach, serving students from diverse backgrounds. Approximately 85% of his students came from middle to low-income families, while 15% were from higher income households. He worked closely with students from single parent and two parent homes alike.
Throughout his career, he was often more than a teacher. He became a trusted listener, advocate, and source of support for students and their families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, including divorce, child custody disputes, domestic violence, substance abuse, and gang involvement.
What he saw repeatedly was a troubling reality: many families facing legal challenges lacked the financial resources and connections needed to seek help, so they often went without legal protection altogether. In contrast, families with greater financial means were able to access the legal system by retaining attorneys or law firms whenever issues arose. That experience is what led him to LegalShield.
